-Donald Pretz-

Donald E. Pretz, 71, of Columbus Junction, died Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Wapello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services for Donald will be Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Commissioned Lay Pastor Ramona Wink will officiate. Casket bearers will be Steve Pretz, Jay Graham, Kirk Wilson, Steve Bell, Wayne Shull and Don Shull. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ray Boulton, Arnold Cutkomp, Doran Cutkomp, Sam Smith and Terry Pretz. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1st from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Columbus City Cemetery Association and the Louisa County Fair Association in Don’s name. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery. Donald Eugene Pretz was born October 18, 1936 in Columbus Junction, the son of John Raymond and Martha Elizabeth (Pratt) Pretz. Don graduated from Columbus High School and worked as a farmer most of his life raising grain and cattle. He later worked as a security guard at IBP and then Tyson Foods. He was a member of the Columbus City Cemetery Association Board and spent many years showing cattle. He especially enjoyed encouraging and watching his grandchildren show cattle. Family and friends will remember Don as he was seen often driving the neighborhood gravel roads keeping a concerned and watchful eye on everything.

Don will be dearly missed by his son, Mike Pretz and wife, Dayle of Columbus Junction; his daughter, Tamara Pretz and husband, Kevin Mitrisin of New Delhi, India; 4 grandchildren, Megan, Kelsey, and Tommy Pretz and Zoe Mitrisin; his brothers, Robert Pretz and wife, Janet, Roger Pretz and Keith Pretz; 1 sister, Joan Pretz, all of Columbus Junction; and nieces and nephews, Susan, Steve and Elizabeth Pretz and Joshua and Jennifer Pretz, all of Columbus Junction.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Harry in childhood and Vaughn Pretz.
