Gerald “Jerry” E. Griffin, 74, of Columbus Junction died Monday, February 13, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics of Iowa City.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Chris Cocklin will officiate.  Casket bearers will be Mick Morrissey, Johnathan Griffin, Shane Griffin, Cory Griffin, Devon Griffin and Rob Greer.  Honorary Casket bearers will be Ty Griffin, Liz Griffin, Randi Renae Stanfield and Jessie Bohrer.  Burial will be in the Indian Creek Cemetery.  Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion, Post 100. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services from 4-7 pm.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Jerry's name.   Sympathy notes may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.         

Gerald Eugene Griffin was born May 22, 1937 in Columbus Junction, the son of William P. and Kathleen A. (McGrath) Griffin.  On June 8, 1956 Jerry was united in marriage to Bette L. Benhart in Burlington.  He had worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 9 years, 9 months and 9 days, Rath Packing for 24 years, the University of Iowa for 9 years, IBP and at the USDA.  Jerry was a volunteer fireman for ten years and a Cub Scout leader for eleven years.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cb radios, bowling, roller skating, watching birds and other assorted wildlife, technology, gadgets, telling stories and jokes, but most of all he loved to be with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Jerry will be dearly missed by his wife, Bette of Columbus Junction; his children, Dave Griffin and wife, Deb of Columbus Junction, Daniel Griffin of Columbus Junction, Barbara Greer and husband, Robert of Columbus Junction and Douglas Griffin of Lone Tree; nine grandchildren, Mick, Johnathan, Shane, Randi Renae, Cory, Devon, Elizabeth, Tiernan “Ty” and Jessie; six great-grandchildren, Dakota Ann, Mattilee, Raegan, Kyler, Phoenix, Maverick and one on the way; his sister, Loretta Bailey of Fort Madison; and an extensive number of nieces, nephews and extended family. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bill, Mary, Donnajean, Bob, Ed, Dan, Dave and Pat.
