Max Strawhacker, 88, of Clark, Missouri, formerly of Oakville, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at his home after a lengthy illness. Graveside services at Edwards Cemetery in rural Oakville will be held at a later date.

Born April 25, 1918, in Oakville, he was the son of Edward Marshall and Nina Davis Strawhacker. On July 18, 1939, he married Neola Rath in Dakota City, Neb.

He graduated from Oakville High School in 1937 and joined the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball organization as a pitcher. After shattering elbow in a farm accident ended his professional career, he continued in the semi-pro league for many years. He farmed near Rock Rapids until 1960, when he went into the implement business. He later relocated to southeast Iowa and became an office manager for Farm Service in Columbus Junction until his retirement in 1982. He moved to Clark in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking, hunting, and trap and skeet shooting. He was a member of the Wapello Masonic Order, the Oakville Methodist Church, and the Rock Rapids Gun Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice Williamson of Clark; two granddaughters; six great-grandsons; one sister, Nadine Alderson of Lubbock, Texas; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and one sister.

Heartland Cremation and Burial Society of Columbia, Missouri, has assisted the family with arrangements.
