-Evelyn Doris Sojka-

Evelyn Doris Sojka, 77, of Columbus Junction formerly of Washington died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of Life services were held 10:30 am Saturday, December 15, 2007, at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating.  Visitation was at 12:00 pm Friday at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home where the family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening.  Interment took  place at the Riverside Public Cemetery in Riverside.  A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences may be sent for Evelyn’s family through the Web at www.jonesfh.com.

Evelyn was born on March 23, 1930, in Raymond, South Dakota, to Fred and Bertha (Nommenson) Yordi.  She attended school in Riverside, Iowa, graduating from Riverside High School.  Evelyn was united in marriage to Elmer Sojka on February 2, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa.  Evelyn lived most of her life in Washington County.  She farmed with her husband, was involved with the Pork Producers in Washington County, and was a 4-H leader for many years.  Evelyn was a former member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Richard Sojka and wife, Patti of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Ronald Sojka and fiancée, Theresa Ballwebber of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; one daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson and husband, Jeff of Sigourney, Iowa; four grandchildren, Lisa Webster, Jessica Kirby, Jamie Stewart, and Jason Stewart; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer in June of 1989; and one son, Randy Sojka in June of 1996.
