-Anne Smit-

Anne Smit, 94, of Muscatine, formerly of Davenport, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Lutheran Homes.  Graveside services were held on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 9:45 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery.  The Rev.Travis Fisher officiated.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Anne’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the Smit family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

Anne Smit was born on November 27, 1912, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Hoven) Smit.  Anne graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1947.  She taught rural school in Muscatine County for seven years, Oakville, Morning Sun and later Davenport Jefferson school, where she taught for thirty-four years.  She was a member of the Putnam Museum, the Davenport Retired Teachers Women’s Club, a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church of Davenport and the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Anne will be deeply missed by her nephew, Theodore Small and his wife, Phyllis of Letts; her niece, Norma Van Ryswyk of Urbandale; and three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Folgert Smit; and one sister, Christine Small
