-Kay Scherer-

M. Kathryn “Kay” Scherer, 82, of rural Burlington, died at 6:45 AM, Friday, March 16, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 17, 1925, in Wyaconda, Missouri, she was the daughter of Samuel Wiley and Ruth Duncan Hays. On February 12, 1944, she married Clyde W. Scherer in Fort Madison.

Kay was a homemaker and farm wife. She also worked 13 years in transistor production and had served on the Quad Township as Clerk for several years.

She graduated as salutatorian from Luray, MO High School in 1941.

She attended Harmony Bible Church. She was an avid quilter, having nearly one hundred quilts to her credit, either hand quilting or repairing for friends. She was loved for her cooking and baking for family and friends, especially chocolate chip cookies and pies. She enjoyed sewing, jigsaw and word puzzles and emailing her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde; two sons, Ronald (Mary) Scherer of Johnston and Gary (Lois) Scherer of Danville; one daughter, Gail (Gregory) Stoller of Columbus Junction; eight grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Richard Hays of Galesburg, IL and Roland Hays of Webster, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

As per her request her body has been cremated.

There will be no visitation.

The memorial service for Kay will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 21, in the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home facilitated by Gary Scherer and Gail Stoller. Inurnment will be at a later date in South Walker Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
