Leona McBride, 89, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral Services were Monday, March 5, 2007 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Rev. Scott Nesbitt of the Ainsworth Community Church officiated. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Leona’s name. Sympathy notes may be left to the McBride family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

Leona Mae Jones was born August 19, 1917 in Pueblo, Colorado, the daughter of Fred and Sarah Lucinda (Waggoner) Jones. On February 11, 1939 Leona was united in marriage to John Paul McBride in Washington, Iowa. Leona was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, growing flowers, and collecting stained glass figurines, salt and pepper shakers and Budweiser items. Leona loved square dancing and polka music, reading and watching humming birds. She especially thrilled by John Wayne movies. Leona was a dear mother and dearly loved by all of her grandchildren.

Leona will be deeply missed by her children, Ila Van Dyke and her husband, Jack of Vining, IA, Ronald McBride and wife, Linda of Iowa City, John McBride and wife, Donna of Muscatine, Sarah “Sally” Grell and husband, Douglas of Cedar Rapids, Judy Augustine and special friend, Vernie Hole of West Chester, IA, Roxie Burkett and husband, Richard of Riverside, IA and Lucy Noel and husband, Pat of Columbus Junction; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucy Romano of Largo, FL and Wanda Sweat of Moline, IL.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Paul McBride in 1987; 1 son, Richard Lee McBride; 2 great-grandchildren, Cindy Hall and DJ; 2 sisters; and 1 brother.
