-Betty Jane Cassabaum-

Betty Jane Cassabaum, age 86 of Barryton, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Reed City, MI at the Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born November 1, 1925 in Sheridan Township, Mecosta Co., Michigan to Bert E. and Agnes Mae (nee Nicholson) Cornell. Betty Jane went to St. Johns, Michigan after high school to live with her grandmother and worked in a bakery prior to leaving for college. Betty Jane graduated from Spring Arbor College in 1949. On March 11, 1950 she married Robert Eugene Cassabaum (formerly of Columbus City, IA) in St. Johns, Michigan. Betty loved people and loved to tell them about her Jesus.  Everyone remembered Betty for her loving and inviting smile.  You could not be around her very long without feeling loved.   She was "grandma" to many and a friend to everyone.

Betty Jane is survived by three sons, Michael Eugene (Maria Grazia) Cassabaum of Highland Park, IL, Stephen Gene (Betty Jeanne nee Nimcheski) Cassabaum of Wheat Ridge, Co., and William Dean (Mary Lou nee Nelson) Cassabaum of Tucson, AZ.; her brother, William (Verna) Cornell of Barryton, sister, Bonnie (Vansyckle) Eckstein of Barryton, MI; five grandchildren, Elijah Gene, Carri Ann, Michael James, Tyler Nelson, and Christina Mary; four great-grandchildren, Sophia Lynn, Ginger Ellen, Olivia Isabella, and Pelaiah Marian and many nieces, nephews and friends that will continue to treasure the memories they hold. 

Betty Jane was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Wayne and her husband, Robert on March 1, 1985.

Graveside services for Betty will take place 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus City, IA with Pastor Harry Swan officiating.

Funeral services for Betty Jane were held on February 24th at the Evart Bible Methodist Church in Michigan where she attended for many years. Arrangements were entrusted to the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton, MI. Share a memory or leave a condolence online at www.daggettgilbertfuneralhome.com.
