-Jack Best-

Jack B. Best, age 75, of Columbus City, died Wednesday afternoon, May 2, 2012, at the Colonial Manor-Columbus Junction.  The son of Benjamin Franklin and Alice Jane Sheridan Best, he was born on October 16, 1936 in Columbus Junction.  He married Stella S. Johnson on July 21, 1967 in Muscatine.

Jack attended schools in Columbus Junction.  He worked as an auto mechanic at the Ford Motor Dealership in Columbus Junction and briefly as the parts manager in Wapello.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Columbus City, the I.O.O.F. Lodge 365 in Columbus Junction, and the Louisa County Historical Society.  He served Columbus City as a councilman for several years and also a few years as the Mayor. Jack enjoyed fishing, flea marketing, and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Stella; a son, Frank Best of Columbus City; and a sister, Margaret Schweitzer of Davenport.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herman Best.

Cremation has been selected with a funeral ceremony held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Columbus City United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Al Coffin.  The family met with friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at a later time at the Columbus City Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Louisa County Historical Society.

The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home is providing the care and arrangements.
