-Betty Rosetta VanAuken-

Betty Rosetta VanAuken passed away March 28, 2012 at the Lutheran Homes in Muscatine. 

She was born September 27, 1938, to James Otto and Allice Cox Blodgett.  On April 26, 1957, she married the love of her life, James VanAuken and they would be married almost 55 years.  She was a stay-at-home mom and always had something ready to warm up just in case you were hungry.  She really enjoyed going to yard sales and having yard sales and most of all, the family dinners on Sundays, where there was always more food than everyone could eat.  The neighbor kids all knew her as Grandma Betty and knew she would always have a treat for them.  The biggest joy in her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James; son, Wayne and wife, MaryEllen VanAuken of Muscatine; daughter, Sharrelle and husband, Bill Nelson of Fredonia; five grandchildren, Thomas and Azure VanAuken of Fredonia, Betsy Baker and fiancée, Dave Tubandt of Muscatine, Joellen Weikert and boyfriend, Chad Kemper of Muscatine, Jeremiah and Corriene Nelson of Wayland, Tiffany and Tony Turner of Columbus Junction; ten great-grandkids; and sister, Twyla Williams of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and two sisters; her mother and father-in-law; two brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Trinity Pathways Hospice in Muscatine, 1609 Cedar Street, Muscatine, IA 52761, in Betty’s name.

Celebration of Life services will be held today, Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Columbus City, Iowa.
