-Richard John Link-

Richard “Rick” John Link, 70, of Wapello, Iowa passed away at home with his family Tuesday, June 25, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. There will be a Celebration of Life with Military Rites at a later date for all friends and family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Richard J. Link Memorial Fund in care of his wife, Bonnie.

Rick was born the son of John Joseph Sr. and Katherine (Keifer) Link, on November 8, 1942, in Janesville, WI. He graduated from Wyandotte County High School, Kansas City, KS, in 1960. Rick enlisted into the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Warrington, the U.S.S. Coral Sea and served as a Naval Reserve Instructor at the U.S. Naval Reserve Facility in Fremont, Nebraska, where he met and married Bonnie Iverson on July 19, 1969 at the Presbyterian Church. After the birth of their daughter, Laurie, the family moved to Grandview, IA in 1971 and later moved to Wapello, IA.

Rick was a building contractor that specialized in floor covering for Carriage House Carpets in Grandview that was later relocated to Muscatine. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as bowling, golf, hunting, NASCAR, and weekend fishing tournaments as a member of the Riverforks Bassmasters. Rick was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan unless of course they were playing the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Rick will be deeply missed by his wife, Bonnie and daughter, Laurie of Wapello, IA; sister, Virginia (Gunther) Behre of Milwaukee, WI; sisters-in-law, Audrey Link and families of Phillips, WI, and Janice Link and families of Lake Quivera, KS; and many special friends whom he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, his brothers, John Jr. (Jack), Harry, Paul, Donald, his sister, Margaret and husband, Frank Oakley.
