-G. Imogene Bailey-

G. Imogene Bailey, age 93, a resident since 2011 of the Colonial Estates in Columbus Junction, died Wednesday evening, June 27, 2012, at the Trinity Hospital in Muscatine.  The daughter of Harry G. and Daisy J. Maxson Chase, she was born on May 3, 1919 in Onslow, Iowa.  She grew up in Jones County and graduated from Central Junction High School in 1936.  She attended Lenox College for two years and Cedar Falls Teachers College for a year.  She taught school for five years.  Imogene married Raymond Bailey on August 26, 1944.  They lived on the farm at Letts for forty years and moved to Wapello in 1984.  He preceded her in death on July 11, 1984.

Imogene was a homemaker for her family and also worked at the Letts Post Office as a Clerk for nineteen years and as the Postmaster for five years retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello, the UMW and its Martha Circle, the Letts Federated Women’s Club and the Wapello Township Farm Bureau.  She was a Past Worthy Matron and 50-year member of the Order of Easter Star.  She enjoyed needlework and quilting, reading, and her family especially the grandchildren.

Imogene is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Rae Gullickson of Stoughton, Wisconsin; two sons, Roger A. and Jeri Bailey of Wapello and Kenneth J. Bailey of Arcanum, Ohio; six grandchildren and one step-granddaughter, Julie and Steve Kriedeman of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Gary Gullickson of Oregon, Wisconsin, Nicole and Trent Claybaker of Bradford, Ohio, Bill and Krystal Bailey of Sidney, Ohio, Beth Bailey and Matt Collins of Arcanum, Ohio, Erin Bailey of Iowa City, and Dan Bailey of Iowa City; 7 great grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eileen Ferguson of Lake City and Hollyce Wirtner of Monticello.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; son-in-law, Robert Gullickson; daughter-in-law, Ginny Bailey; and a step great-granddaughter, Jaden.

The funeral ceremony for Imogene Bailey was held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Al Coffin officiating.  Burial followed at the Letts Cemetery followed by a luncheon for family and friends at the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Wapello.

Friends called from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family met friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church and the Wapello Rescue Unit.
