- Clifford Lewis Arthur-

Clifford Lewis (Pete) Arthur passed away peacefully on May 26, 2012, in Sun City, California. 

He was born on October 8, 1923 in Carroll, Nebraska to Clifford and Maud Arthur.  He was raised in Columbus City and Wapello by his mother and stepfather, Tom Peters.  He graduated from Wapello High School in 1941.  He was married to Ardith Allen at Morning Sun, Iowa on January 3, 1944.  She died April 20, 1991. Clifford served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 32 years, at his retirement, he was a Master Gunnery Sergeant.  He served in a combat role during WWII, in a support role in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.  After serving in the Marine Corps, he worked for Hughes Aircraft until his retirement.  He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, American Legion and the VFW. 

He is survived by his two sons, Thomas and Joel Arthur; his sister, Ruth Van Auken; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, and a sister, Celia Podaril and his second wife, Iris, on March 26, 2012. Services were held on June 6, 2012 in California and he was buried with Military Honors at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
