-Joe Kottenstette-

Joe Kottenstette, 58, of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Memorial Mass will be Friday, January 27, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  Rev. Fr. Joseph Sia will officiate.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be Michael Kottenstette, Melinda Kottenstette, Nancy Kottenstette and Carsen Kottenstette.  Inurnment will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Arrangements are in the care of the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Iowa City Hospice and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joe’s name. Joseph Paul Kottenstette was born August 21, 1953, in Ft. Madison, Iowa, the son of John and Francella (Blind) Kottenstette.  On   July 29, 1978,Joe was united in marriage to Diana Meller in Dodgeville, Iowa. Joe had worked for Kinder Morgan as a natural gas pipeline technician and operator in Columbus Junction.  He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Joe enjoyed working on cars, mowing and yard work, helping other people and especially spending time with family and friends. 

Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Diana of Columbus Junction; his son, Mike Kottenstette and wife, Nicole of Pella, Iowa; daughters, Melinda Kottenstette of North Liberty, Iowa, and Nancy Kottenstette and fiancé, Zachary of Indianapolis, Indiana; one grandchild, Carsen Kottenstette of Pella; his mother, Francella Kottenstette of Lisbon, Iowa; one sister, Judith Poduska and husband, Larry of Lisbon; three brothers, Thomas Kottenstette and wife, Linda of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Peter Kottenstette and wife, Carol of Burlington, Iowa, and Robert Kottenstette and wife, Katie of Lucas, Texas; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Kottenstette of Tyler, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his father and brother, James.
