Prior to her marriage she worked in a clerical position at Swifts Poultry Company in Muscatine.

Following his death, Pat completed a clerical course at Muscatine Community College. Pat instilled in her family a value for learning, having three children and three daughters-in-law who became educators. Coincidently Pat and Francis raised their family in a home that was previously a country schoolhouse. Achieving her goal of seeing her children educated, Pat retired to enjoy travel with her sisters and family members around the country, with numerous trips abroad.

She was blessed with many friends in the Grandview Federated Club, where she was one of the charter members, the Grandview Community Club and served several years as a Hospice Volunteer. Along with Francis, she was involved with many Louisa County Farm Bureau activities. She always recognized the value of every person she met, and this will be greatly missed by her family.  She was a lifelong member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish.
